UWE holds Christmas exhibition and sale of artists' badges

Issue date: 17 November 2008

A selection of the badges Artists from the Enamel, Textile and Ceramic Applied Arts Group (etc) in the School of Creative Arts at the University of the West of England are offering Christmas shoppers the chance to buy a really unusual and unique gift. An exhibition and sale of badges, exemplifying the best in applied arts will be held in the Foyer Gallery at the Bower Ashton Campus from Monday 24 November until Thursday 4 December.

Twenty artists, including UWE staff and invited artists have each designed and made badges in a limited edition of 50 on the theme of 'Meaning'. Each badge is priced at just £15 and presented in an individual gift box together with a special note from the artist.

Exhibition organiser Matthew Partington said, “This exhibition is the culmination of the sixth annual badges Project. Etc members and invited artists have worked to produce limited edition badges using the theme of 'Meaning' as a starting point. Using materials including acrylic, copper, plastic, enamel, slate, wood and wool the artists have produced an amazing and beautiful range of work. This sale presents exhibition visitors with the chance to buy work by some of the most respected and talented applied artists working in the UK today.”

Artists taking part for the first time this year are: Syann van Niftrik, a jeweller from Hampshire; Matt Benton, an artist and jeweller from Bristol; Bronwen Gwillim, a glass artist and arts administrator from Somerset and Timothy Information Ltd, a jeweller from London.
