UWE's expertise in 3D printing will help Renishaw reduce costs and enter new markets by making full use of its rapid 3D prototyping equipment in the design and manufacture of new products.

    An inspiring opening to this year's theBizIdea awards ceremony by keynote speaker Fraser Doherty set the tone for this celebration of the enterprising achievements of a record number of graduates, students and staff who took part in this year's newly formatted competition. It's never too soon to set up your own business, according to Fraser, who at the age of 21 already has many years of experience behind him with his successful company SuperJam. Fraser continues to grow his business and profits from his recipe book, which includes his grandmother's famous recipes, are funding a charity providing tea dances for pensioners.

  • UWE student wins RSA prize for innovative toaster design

    A student from the University of the West of England has won a prestigious RSA Student Design Award prize, ‘the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 Award' of £700 for an innovative take on the humble toaster.

    James Eelbeck is in his final year of the Product Design Technology course at UWE and has won the award for his design called ‘Love Toast'. The category brief was ‘Make something disappear: use design to eliminate waste, overproduction or excessive consumption'.

    The Centre for Fine Print Research, part of the Department of Art and Design at UWE, has been cited in a report by Research Councils UK (RCUK) and Universities UK (UUK) to mark Universities Week 2011.

    The report, Big Ideas for the Future, uncovers the top 100 pieces of research that will shape our future. CFPR is referred to twice in the report, in relation to how research can inform and enhance the commercial sector by working in partnership with businesses organisations.

  • Times Higher Award for UWE's Procurement team

    The Procurement team at the University of the West of England has won the Outstanding Procurement Team prize at the Times Higher Leadership and Management Awards 2011. The award was presented by David Murphy, Director of the Public Sector, for Office Depot the award sponsors at a special ceremony in London on Thursday 16 June at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London.

Confirmed speakers so far include Professor Tony Killard from UWE, Sam Millar from Campden BRI who will be presenting on Bio imaging, Dr Sara Flint from the Centre for Additive Layer Manufacturing (CALM) and Dr Zoe Betteridge will join us from the Bath Institute for Rheumatic Diseases to discuss new diagnostic techniques.     The University of the West of England welcomes the proposal for a new football stadium at the Frenchay Campus through a groundbreaking agreement with Bristol Rovers Football Club (BRFC) subject to planning permission.
