  • Team UWE triumph in national business challenge


    Six enterprising students from the University of the West of England have won the £3000 top prize in the Grand Finals of FLUX500, an intense national business challenge competition. The UWE team triumphed against 31 teams from universities across the UK at the event which was hosted by City of Bristol College at its South Bristol Skills Academy in Hengrove, and sponsored by Experian.

    Law students from the University of the West of England’s Bristol Law School have won a prestigious Attorney General’s award for a free service offering legal support to victims of domestic abuse.

  • UWE launches international placements for law students


    Two law students at the University of the West of England's Bristol Institute of Legal Practice (BILP) are the first to be placed with German law firms as part of BILP's new international placement scheme. Over the summer, Legal Practice Course (LPC) students Simon Curran and Lauren Luscombe will undertake four-week placements at two leading German commercial law firms in Berlin and Dusseldorf.

  • UWE graduate wins Xcel Student of the Year


    University of the West of England Geography graduate, Robert Nichols was awarded the honour of Xcel Student of the Year at the recent Xcel Student Awards 2010 in London. This award topped off a successful evening for the University winning four out of the eight categories with students, Alexandru Atudosie and Jessica Winter also being honoured for their outstanding achievements. The awards were presented by TV presenter, Konnie Huq.

    University of the West of England radiotherapy student David Evans has won a prestigious international elective placement in the 2010 Society of Radiographers Work the World Competition.

    Students from the Media Practice course at the University of the West of England have once again dominated the nomination stages of the Royal Television Society Student TV awards for the South West region. Media Practice students have notched up five nominations in the total of six and are assured of a win in the Fiction category as all the finalists are from UWE.

  • UWE student joins Aston Martin junior racing team


    Student James Appleby from the University of the West of England has just been announced as a member of the new official Aston Martin Racing Junior Team - Generation AMR. The announcement was made at the annual Aston Martin Racing awards dinner, held at Gaydon in Oxfordshire, Aston Martin's headquarters. According to Aston Martin Racing, the team will focus on young driver development, and was born from the joining of two family teams that competed against each other in the inaugural Aston Martin GT4 Challenge of Great Britain.

  • Pest control idea wins Universities SW awards


    Bright ideas based on agriculture swept the board at this year's Universities South West Enterprise Awards (USWEA) in both the student and staff/alumni categories. Winner of the Best Student Business plan was Charlie Hancock of the Royal Agricultural College (RAC) with Vermtek which provides scientifically-based, cost-effective solutions to pest problems. The idea offers a proactive approach to prevention, as well as estate maintenance and other outdoor services. Winner of the Best Staff / Alumni Business plan was Cotswold Gold Ltd, an idea from Charlie Beldam and Lawrence Millett-Satow also of the RAC for a high quality rapeseed oil for culinary use produced using 'zero waste' principles.

  • UWE Photography student gains international recognition


    Marcus Riley, a first year Photography student at UWE, has won a prize in a major international photography competition.

    The International Aperture Awards is an annual competition with nine 'open categories', including sport, commercial and journalism, and three amateur categories, attracting entries from professional and budding photographers from around the world.
