  • UWE debate to focus on legalisation of prostitution

    A debate organised by the Women Law Students Forum at UWE Bristol will feature Julie Bindel, a renowned feminist freelance journalist who will argue against the legalisation and decriminalisation of prostitution and Jean Johnson, a WI Representative campaigning for the legalisation of brothels in the UK. The debate will take place at the Frenchay Campus of UWE at 16:30 on Monday 2 April 2012.

  • UWE Bristol wins two Intellectual Property Awards

    UWE Bristol has received two prestigious awards from the Intellectual Property Office for the Bloodhound@University project and a joint win for the Knowing and Growing project which is a collaboration with the University of York, the University of Sheffield and Southampton Solent University. UWE Bristol is the only university in the UK to pick up two Intellectual Property Awards.

    UWE Bristol and Bristol Law Society have jointly launched the 2012 work placement scheme exclusively for UWE Bristol Legal Practice Course students.

    UWE Bristol's LPC students will again be placed with firms in Bristol and beyond. Last year a number of students were able to secure legal employment on the basis of the scheme.

  • New chair of University Alliance to be Professor Steve West

    University Alliance has elected Professor Steve West, Vice-Chancellor of the University of the West of England, Bristol, as their new Chair. Professor West will take up the three-year position in August 2012, succeeding current chair Janet Beer, Vice-Chancellor of Oxford Brookes University, who has been chair since 2009.

    Local colleges and UWE Bristol have been awarded a grant worth £1.1 million as part of a new scheme to establish Higher Apprenticeships, offering young people and adults a means to gain a higher education qualification whilst in work.
