  • Animation by UWE Bristol student will help to save lives


    Could a 40-second clay animation of a cartoon character with a hole in his side, designed and created in a student's bedroom in Bristol save thousands of lives?

    UWE Bristol third year Animation student Hywel Roberts has created a short animated film featuring a character called TRAN MAN, that explains the benefits of a cheap drug called tranexamic acid which helps reduce clot breakdown. The animation will be promoted to doctors worldwide.

  • UWE Bristol Illustration student wins prize at Cheltenham Illustration Awards


    A student from UWE Bristol has won the student prize at the internationally acclaimed Cheltenham Illustration Awards.

    Brittany Molineux, a year 2 Illustration student, was presented with first prize for her winning entry, "Heavenly Reindeer Tale" at a recent awards ceremony hosted by the University of Gloucestershire and received an Apple IMac computer.

    Janette Kerr, a visiting fellow from UWE Bristol, has been elected as the fourth female president of the Royal West of England Academy. Janette Kerr studied for her PhD in Fine Art at UWE Bristol and was supervised by Professor Paul Gough who is Deputy Vice-Chancellor.

    Harriet Bowman, a level 2 Fine Arts student has won a £1000 Ideas Fund Innovators award for a project entitled 'Field Song' that she has created in collaboration with London based musician Ben Socrates.

  • UWE animation students win Crazy Horse short film competition in Stuttgart


    Final year students from the University of the West of England's Bristol School of Animation, Constantinos Mavromichalis and Dane Winn, have won the Crazy Horse Session, a competition at the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film. They competed with other teams of international animators to create a short film using the festival mascot – a Crazy Horse - in just 48 hours.

    UWE Fashion Design student Emily Smeaton has won the Warehouse Design Competition, which is awarded in association with the British Fashion Council.

  • Sea, air and light come to life in Extreme Wave exhibition


    Dramatic seascapes by visiting University of the West of England Research Fellow Dr Janette Kerr are on show this summer focussing on the seas around Shetland. The exhibition of works in paint, graphite, charcoal and chalk is at the Bonhoga Gallery, Shetland, until 14 August.

  • UWE fashion student wins Chevrolet design prize


    Fashion student Lucy Lambert from the University of the West of England has come first in the national rounds of the Chevrolet international art and design competition. Lucy will receive the 1200 euro award for her 'retro' evening wear design at a prize-giving during the Moving Motor Show at Goodwood's Festival of Speed on 30 June.
