  • Filmmaking graduate wins Student BAFTA for Blood Island documentary

    UWE Bristol graduate Lindsey Parietti has won a Student BAFTA award for her nature documentary Blood Island. The film director picked up the gong at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Student Film Awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Friday evening.

  • Student designed Gromit to go on display at Bower Ashton as part of arts trail

    A Gromit sculpture painted by two UWE Bristol graduates is to go on display at the University's Bower Ashton campus, as part of the Gromit Unleashed 2 public arts trail, which takes place in Bristol over the summer. The artists decorated the dog – one half of the Wallace and Gromit duo in the eponymous animation films – after winning a competition to design the canine character.

  • UWE Bristol celebrates Royal Television Society West of England Awards

    There was a strong showing for UWE Bristol at the glitzy Royal Television Society West of England awards at the Bristol Old Vic.

    Hosted by Countryfile presenter Anita Rani, the ceremony honoured the best in film and television production from Bristol with 28 awards from excellence in sound and special effects to the best of drama and factual programmes.

  • Graduate Filmmaker nominated for RTS West of England Award

    Hugo Pettitt, a filmmaking graduate from UWE Bristol has been shortlisted for a RTS West of England Award in the Digital Creativity category. This success comes just two years afte Hugo was nominated for a RTS Student Award for his graduate film 'The Invisible School'.

    Hugo was producer on the shortlisted 'Slavery Street', a BBC Three project on modern slavery and goes 'head to head' with the BBC Natural History Unit's 'Attenborough and the Dinosaur'. Hugo also worked on 'Making a Slave' nominated in the Best Short category.

  • Intrepid Wildlife Filmmaker takes on the ultimate endurance challenge

    Katy Parrott, a recent MA Wildlife Filmmaking graduate from UWE Bristol signed up for the experience of a life time, beating off 1000s of other applicants to fly off to South Africa to star in the current BBC Two series Special Forces: Ultimate Hell Week.

  • UWE Bristol sees strong uplift in the proportion of 'First in Family' students

    In a boost to social mobility, the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) has seen an increase in the proportion of students who come from families with no previous experience of higher education in the last 4 years. Data published today from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) shows the proportion of students from low participating neighbourhoods entering the University has increased from 11.5% to 14.6%. This exceeds the current 11.3% university average and the 12.3% funding council benchmark.

    An animated Clearing advice video, produced by a UWE Bristol animation alumnus, and voiced by Hannah Regean, a current Biomedical Science student who went through the process, is just one of the many sources of information and advice the University has created, in order to make Clearing as simple and painless as possible for prospective students.

  • New graduate conversion course to be offered in Building Services Engineering

    UWE Bristol has been awarded funding from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) to create a new graduate conversion course in Building Services Engineering. One of 28 projects awarded a share of £1.7 million to retrain graduates to meet the economy's growing demand for engineers, data science and cybersecurity experts.
