  • Symposium to explore how documentaries can better engage audiences using technology

    The fifth edition of the i-Docs symposium, which is dedicated to the expanding and evolving field of interactive documentaries, is to take place from 21-23 March at the Watershed. The bi-annual event is hosted by the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol)'s Digital Cultures Research Centre (DCRC).

  • Creative Media Design student wins Bristol Pound competition

    BA Creative Media Design student Radley Attwell Cook has had his design chosen to represent Bristol on the new Bristol Pound notes that will enter circulation later this year. His design, 'Power in Numbers!' representing the Protest and Rebellion culture in Bristol, was selected from over 300 designs by an online vote and a panel of judges made up of community leaders and artists including Massive Attack's Grant Marshall and civil rights activist Paul Stephenson OBE. The judges were tasked with choosing winning designs that take into account designs what would be workable on a small paper note.

  • Filmmaking and animation students the best in the West

    UWE's filmmaking and animation students have dominated at this year's Royal Television Society (RTS) West of England Student Awards. In a strong field of nominations from colleges across the region, UWE students won the Animation, Factual, Comedy, Entertainment and Short Feature categories. The RTS also recognised the exceptional craft contributions of many individual students to the winning films. In total UWE had 10 out of the 17 nominations.

  • Major study to investigate UK feature documentary film industry

    A major AHRC-funded research project on the UK's booming feature documentary film industry will begin at UWE in December.

    The research will be led by Dr Steve Presence and Professor Andrew Spicer in the Digital Cultures Research Centre at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), and will be carried out in collaboration with the British Film Institute, Creative England and The Grierson Trust, as well as several industry partners.
