Campus computers will be unavailable Friday 8 - Sunday 10 September

Issue date: 04 September 2017

We're migrating all students' H: drives, across all campuses, to a new generation of storage.

To make sure this goes without a hitch, we're asking you not to use campus computers or access your H: drive from 17:00 on Friday 8 September until 18:00 on Sunday 10 September.

Why can't I use campus computers or my H: drive during this time?

If you're logged on to a campus computer – whether that's on campus or remotely from home – we won't be able to migrate your files from the old storage to the new storage.

This applies even if you're logged on but not accessing your H: drive – as some applications might use your H: drive in the background without you realising.

As long as you're logged off over the weekend, you'll be able to access your files as usual on Monday.

What happens if I log on or use my H: drive over the weekend?

If you log on to a computer or use your H: drive over the weekend, we won't be able to migrate your files. That means that on Monday some of your files may be missing. Don't panic – they won't be lost forever, but you'll need to contact us to recover the files. Call the IT Helpdesk on 0117 32 83612 or email itonline@uwe.ac.uk.

What if I need to access files on my H: drive over the weekend?

You have access to 1TB of secure online storage through OneDrive. It's part of Office 365, which you can access through your university email account (look in the top left hand corner!).

OneDrive allows you to access your documents anywhere in the world.

If you'll need any files from your H: drive over the weekend, upload them to your OneDrive before 17:00 on Friday 8 September and you'll be able to access them from there.

Who do I contact if I have any questions?

Please contact the IT Helpdesk by calling 0117 32 83612 or emailing itonline@uwe.ac.uk.
