UWE STUDENTS WORK AMONGST TOP IN EUROPE
25 November 2002
Two UWE students have had their work selected from more than a hundred across Europe to be shown at the prestigious Europrix Top Talent Award in Vienna in December.
The award recognises young multimedia creators and producers and provides a showcase for the Top 15 projects chosen from throughout Europe.
Rebecca Lloyd and Ben Venfield, students on the Time-Based Media course at UWE created an interactive CD Rom entitled ‘Then all of a sudden’ on the theme of dreams.
The story is non-linear and is based around three different feeling states – happy, nightmare, surreal. The viewer can choose where the story goes next at the end of each section. It was filmed on mini DV and uses a mixture of photographic and drawn images.
Rebecca, who graduates from UWE on 26 November says, “I can’t believe it – I’m really delighted to receive this nomination. At the moment I am working on a CD Rom for the 150th anniversary of the Royal West of England Academy and my ambition is to carry on working in the area of film and interactive multi-media.”
Ben Venfield who is also graduating next week, was the programmer on the project. He says, “ I provided the technical know how by building in a programming code so that the CD ROM would do what Rebecca needed it to do. I’m also working with Rebecca on the Student Enterprise Scheme at the RWA helping to produce a CD ROM about the History of the RWA and making projections exploring interaction between video and painting. Winning this award will give me the chance to put my skills into perspective with the best in Europe and give me the chance to showcase my work to future employers.”
Rebecca and Ben will travel to Vienna to present their work at the three day Europrix festival (1-3 December), which is designed as a special platform for exchange, networking and business contacts for the best young creators and producers in Europe.
More details about the festival can be found at http://www.europrix.org
