The University of the West of England is to transfer its Printing and Stationery business from the old site at Ashley Down to new premises at Emerald Park East, Emersons Green, North Bristol. The University's printing facility has been based at Ashley Down for 22 years and it has become more costly to maintain the building. An increase in demand for printing has meant a need for expansion, which the Ashley Down site cannot provide.
John Noble, Printing and Stationery Manager, said, “Relocating to the new unit will present many new opportunities to develop the business and take advantage of the latest technology. The advantage for the academic staff is that they will be able to e-mail research and teaching papers directly to the unit, resulting in better quality print and turnaround.”
The nineteen strong workforce are delighted to be moving from the site at Ashley Down to the new 6,700 sq ft premises at Emerald Park East. “Installation of a fibre optic cable is underway that will link us to the main Frenchay Campus and which will considerably improve the transmission of information between the two sites,” said John.
The Printing and Stationery Unit manages all areas of the University’s photocopying, printing and stationery needs, providing an extensive range of business stationery and publicity material by converting 176 tonnes of paper into 48 million prints per year.
The building was acquired from Slough Estates on a 15 year lease through agents Chesterton plc and Alder King.
The move is planned to take place around Easter 2002.
