Ian Cheshire, Group Chief Executive of Kingfisher will share his expertise on the importance of team leadership at the next talk in the Distinguished Executive Address Series on Tuesday 19 October, 18.00 –20.30 at the University of the West of England's Frenchay Campus.
The Distinguished Executive Address Series 'Meet the Leaders of Industry' is organised by UWE's Bristol Business School. Leaders from key UK businesses and organisations talk to students and staff about the challenges, issues and decisions being made at the highest level of strategic leadership.
The address, 'Leadership through Teams' will look at the critical leadership process of selecting, forming and managing teams; diversity in teams and the paradox of close control vs empowerment. Ian Cheshire, said, “In most businesses leadership isn't about hero CEOs, it's about getting results through teams.”
There will also be an opportunity for the audience to put forward their issues and questions.
Ian Cheshire was appointed Group Chief Executive of Kingfisher plc in January 2008. Prior to this he was Chief Executive of B&Q from June 2005. His previous roles at Kingfisher include Chief Executive of International and Development, Chief Executive of e-Kingfisher and Group Director of Strategy and Development. Before joining Kingfisher in 1998 he worked for a number of retail businesses including Sears plc where he was Group Commercial Director. He is also a member of the Prince of Wales Corporate Leaders Group on Climate Change and a Member of the Employers' Forum on Disability President's Group.
The Distinguished Executive Address Series of talks will continue at the Frenchay Campus of the University of the West of England until 29 November and will feature Chairmen, CEOs and institutional leaders representing a variety of sectors.
Tuesday 9 November 2010, 18.00-20.30, Lady Susan Rice, Managing Director, Lloyds TSB Scotland will give a talk 'Reconnecting Banking and Values – the most important relationship in banking'.
Thursday 18 November 2010, 18.00-20.30, Dr Mike Kinski, Operational Managing Director, Terra Firma Capital Partners Ltd will give a talk 'Management of Change in Business'.
Monday 29 November 2010, 18.30-20.30, Martin McCourt, CEO, Dyson Ltd will give a talk 'Against The Odds'.
