UWE Students' Union stages UK's biggest Freshers' Fair

Issue date: 22 September 2010

Freshers' Fair Over 10,000 students from the University of the West of England are set for a fun-packed experience at the UK's biggest Freshers' Fair on Friday 24 September, 11.00-16.00 at the University's Exhibition and Conference Centre on Frenchay Campus.

Hosted by the University Students' Union (UWESU), this year's Freshers' Fair is the biggest yet – filling the impressive 4000 square metre venue with 200 UWESU sports clubs, societies and commercial stalls, all competing for students' attention with freebies, giveaways, demonstrations and displays.

Student Representative Council President, Colin Offler said, “Every year UWESU runs one of the largest Freshers' Fairs in the country, giving students a real welcome to Bristol and the West Country and a chance to meet local businesses and find out how to get involved in University life. We are really proud to pull such a diverse range of services and companies together in one place for students to access.”

New and returning students will have a huge range of UWESU sports clubs and societies to choose from including Comets Cheerleading, People &Planet, Forensic Science and Skydive. Around 100 local and national companies will have stalls at the Fair including Bristol Rovers Football and Supporters Club, Bristol Barbarians, Apple and Domino's.

Michaela Roberts, marketing manager for the Bristol branch of Domino's, said, “Freshers' Fairs are a great way for us to get out there and meet our customers and potential customers. In addition, they are always a lot of fun and our store team has a great time interacting with the students. Domino's is an active supporter of students across the UK – and nowhere more so than in Bristol.”

Rupert Knight, Apple said, “It's a great opportunity for Apple to meet with all the new students and let them know about Apple's discount scheme, as it's the only opportunity to meet this many students in one go.”

Students will enjoy live music, entertainment and food throughout the day as they make their way around the Fair and there will be one final opportunity for students to try out a new sport for free.

Freshers' Fair will take place on Friday 24 September, 11.00-16.00 at the University's Exhibition and Conference Centre on Frenchay Campus.
