The University of the West of England's Centre for Sport
will be inviting top regional, aspiring national league and national league 1XI standard teams to its world class hockey pitch on 11-12 September 2010 when the UWE Hockey trophy gets underway.
The UWE Hockey trophy is a four team hockey event that will run for the first time in 2010, featuring both men and women's teams.
The tournament aims to be the leading pre-season tournament for Premier Regional and National League clubs in the West. Teams entering the tournament will play in a round robin format over a weekend, culminating in a grand final on the Sunday afternoon.
Richard Bennett, Sports Performance Manager, said “The Centre for Sport is proud to be part of the Hockey West National Performance Centre. Its water based astropitch is one of the finest in the country and has played host to the EHL playoffs in 2009, 2010 BUCS semi finals and the 2008 school games.”
The event is supported by the Centre for Sport's partner clubs; Bristol-UWE and Redland-UWE with the teams taking part also including Cardiff, Maidstone and London Wayfarers.
Competing players are supported by UWE Centre for Sport's resident sports therapist, available throughout the event as well as being supplied with a goody bag by event partner, Science in Sport.
UWE's Centre for Sport in Frenchay, Bristol has a state of the art complex featuring a floodlit Astroturf Pitch, Sports Hall, two fully equipped fitness suites and an indoor climbing wall. It also has a team of dedicated sports performance staff to support students at Elite Athlete levels throughout their time at UWE. http://www.uwe.ac.uk/sport/index.shtml
