Bristol Distinguished Address Series
'Question Time' event for all at UWE
30 March 2010
Students and Staff at the University of the West of England are being given an opportunity to quiz politicians, University leaders and other experts at a special event organised by ELSA @ UWE, (the European Law Student Association).
The event, a lively topical debate will be held on Friday 23 April at 19:00 in the Glendinning Lecture Theatre (2D67), Frenchay Campus, UWE.
Students, non-students and staff are invited to submit their questions in advance to the panellists who are:
Kerry McCarthy (Labour) for Bristol South East
Julie Girling (Conservative) for South West Region
Peter Tyzack (Lib Dem) for Filton and Bradley Stoke
Dr Marie-Annick Gournet, (UWE, Widening participation)
Sandi Blake, Amnesty International
Professor Steve West, UWE Vice-Chancellor
Dr Rachel Fenton, Senior Law Lecturer at UWE will chair the debate. The event is open to anyone interested in debating issues of any nature and furthering their student experience.
Beccy Berryman (Secretary General of ELSA @ UWE) says, “This event offers a forum to all in which they can debate and air their concerns about political, non-political, international, local and social issues. We want to encourage debate amongst students, non-students and staff and this is an ideal opportunity to express their individual and collective concerns about past, present and future issues. With an election pending, this is a good time for us to question our leaders, and get different views on a whole range of issues.
“At ELSA we feel it is especially important for students to debate issues that may affect them in the future and to challenge politicians on the stance they take. We are looking forward to a lively and topical debate and we hope to make this event a regular annual feature of the University calendar.”
Students, non-students and University staff are all welcome to attend the event. There is a nominal charge for non members of ELSA of £1.00 and ELSA society members have free entry. Complimentary buffet and drinks will be provided for all.
