The event, now in its third year, is steadily growing and this year attracted over 20 local and regional law firms as well as seven barristers' Chambers as exhibitors. The exhibitors' stands were again located in the actual LPC and BPTC teaching rooms, and this created the unusually direct atmosphere in which BILP students could meet the local employers, and vice versa. The fair was preceded by informative presentations of the LPC, BPTC and GDL courses to undergraduate students who are considering a career in the Law.

UWE Bristol Professor to discuss dementia research at free monthly Memory Cafés - 30/11/2012
Professor Richard Cheston, the Chair of Mental Health Research at the University of the West of England is attending Withywood Memory Café from 10:00 – 12:00 on Tuesday 4 December and Fishponds Memory Café from 14:00 – 16:00 on Friday 14 December in Bristol to talk about his research into the emotional difficulties faced by people living with dementia, as well as opportunities to get involved with a local research project on improving memory assessments. The Memory Cafés, run by the charity Alzheimer's Society are free to attend and open to anyone affected by memory problems, either personally, as a carer, a family member or friend.

UWE helps save 'integral part of English ceramic history' by combining late 19th century and digital print techniques - 15/11/2012
UWE Bristol's Centre for Fine Print Research (CFPR) is helping retain traditional English pottery decorating skills by finding ways of combining them with digital print techniques.
Professor Steve Hoskins, director of the CFPR, and Mr Dave Huson are collaborating with Burleigh Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent, the last remaining company to produce ceramic tableware decorated using the traditional printed underglaze tissue method. The pottery was saved from the threat of closure by the Princes' Regeneration Trust in June 2011.

Making meat healthier - 07/11/2012
Meat is an important source of proteins, fatty acids and other nutrients in a human diet. However there is evidence to suggest that the global increase in meat consumption is linked to an increase in major diseases such as cancer. This is largely related to a high consumption of total fat and undesirable saturated fatty acids present in meat. High consumption of total and saturated fatty acids has also been demonstrated to be positively related to the development of coronary heart diseases, diabetes and obesity.

An unusual course is being run at UWE Bristol for health professionals who want to help patients with bad breath. According to the microbiologists running the course, bad breath - or oral malodour - is the third most common reason for people to visit their dentists. However dentists are not trained to distinguish the causes of oral malodour using their sense of smell.

At 21, Dino Zelenika is used to being the youngest person at the various orchid associations and meetings he attends. Despite his age Dino has already carried out field research into wild orchids in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BH) where he was born. This research with his photos will feature in the latest issue of the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) journal The Orchid Review. The Orchid Review is the oldest and most influential orchid magazine in the world, and has been published since 1893, when Victorian society was in the grip of orchid mania.

The debate will be between senior lecturer in transport and planning Dr Steve Melia from UWE and design consultant Ben Hamilton-Baillie. Steve initiated the Living Heart for Bristol campaign, which aims to remove through traffic from the centre of Bristol, and is co-author of a research paper which questions recent guidance from the Department for Transport on shared space. Ben Hamilton-Baillie is generally regarded as the leading proponent of shared space, whose work has increased the influence of these ideas in the UK and elsewhere.

Wessex Red surprised a lucky passenger today, Thursday 29 March with a prize for being the millionth passenger to use the new service.
Since its launch in September 2011 Wessex Red has carried a million passengers on its routes - run in partnership with UWE Bristol and the University of Bristol. The service, formerly called Ulink, was relaunched last year and is now open to the general public as well as those studying or working at the City's university campuses.

In its 100^th year the Curzon Cinema in Clevedon is embracing digital technology with the introduction of the Curzon Memories App that brings the cinema's colourful past to life. The App will be launched at an afternoon tea event at the Curzon on Saturday 31 March at 16:00.

World's biggest ever cleft lip and palate research programme - 27/03/2012
Parents of children born with a cleft lip and/or palate are being invited to enrol in the world's largest ever cleft research programme, launched in London today (Tuesday 27 March). Academics from the Centre for Appearance Research (CAR) at UWE Bristol will bring their expertise in the psychology of appearance to the research project. The Universities of Bristol and Manchester will lead the research in partnership with a number of other universities and NHS partners including UWE Bristol.

Research suggests farmers lack confidence in badger vaccination - 23/01/2012
Research conducted by a UWE Bristol researcher, based at the Countryside and Community Research Institute (CCRI), and in collaboration with Cardiff University, has found that farmers surveyed in five areas of England lack confidence in a badger vaccine to prevent the spread of bovine Tuberculosis (bTB). Farmers also had low levels of trust in the Government's ability to manage bovine Tuberculosis.

Beer belly is biggest body issue for men - 06/01/2012
New research shows that men have serious issues and that talking about your body is no longer confined to women.
A major national study[i] examining British men's attitudes to their appearance reveals that over four in five (80.7%) men regularly engage in conversation about one another's body and that most are unhappy with their muscularity. The study found that men talk most about their unhappiness with their stomach, referred to most commonly as their beer belly.
