Using the Registration tab

Registration tab icon

Note: the Registration tab is only available to eligible students during registration periods.

If you are a new student at UWE Bristol, you may be asked for information required by HESA prior to proceeding with your online registration. Please see the HESA questions for Online Registration guidance for further information.

Clicking on the Registration tab will take you to the Online Registration application, which consists of two key stages:

  1. Registration Form
  2. Payment of tuition fees

At both stages of registration confirmation will be provided in the form of an e-mail to your UWE e-mail address and to a personal e-mail address if you have provided one.

There are some reasons you may not be able to register online and instead of the registration form, you may see one of the following:

  • Required Data Missing
  • Outstanding Debt
  • Invalid Registration
  • Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and other admissions checks

For further information about what to do please see the guidance.

If you have failed one or more modules you can register online but your fees may be adjusted at a later date. For further information on what this means, please see the guidance for referred students.

For registration enquiries, please contact the University.

Stage 1: Registration Form

If you are referred you will see this cautionary message in the registration form and before you continue with your registration you are strongly advised to read the guidance for referred students.

You have failed one or more modules. You can register online but your fees may be adjusted at a later date. For further information on what this means, please see the referred students guidance pages.

The registration form is in 6 sections, which are:

By completing the Registration Form you will be provisionally registered unless you are:

  • a student fully-funded by the Student Loans Company (SLC) and we have received details of the funding
  • a student fully-funded by the NHS
  • an international student who has paid all tuition fees before registration

- in which case completion of the Registration Form will take your registration to fully-registered.

From provisionally registered you can then either continue to full registration by paying your tuition fees online or leave your registration at provisional and return at a later date.

If you are unable to complete your registration by paying your fees as part of the online registration process - you will need to pay your fees using an alternative payment method.

Section 1 - Course Details

The first section on the provisional registration form presents course details for the course on which you are registering. Below is an example.

example screenshot of Section 1 - Course Details

Study mode - this is the mode of attendance for you on this course - please note that this may display sandwich when you believe you are studying full-time. This is because the course is normally designated as a sandwich degree and all students are registered as sandwich until they decide not to take a placement in their third year and transfer at that point to the full-time route of the course. So, if you are a first-year or second-year student and the study mode shows sandwich it makes no difference to your student record and can be overlooked at this stage in your studies. However, if you are a final year student and this shows sandwich when it should show full-time please contact the University to make the necessary change.

If your course details are correct you should check the ‘I confirm that the above Course Details are correct’ checkbox.

If your course details are not correct please contact the University. Once the new details have been entered you can return to myUWE and continue with your registration online.

Section 2A -Personal Details

If your personal details are correct you should check the ‘I confirm that the above Personal Details are correct’ checkbox.

If your title, personal e-mail and/or mobile number are wrong you can change them in the Personal Details channel (please note that you will need to resubmit this registration form to see changes which you have made elsewhere. If in doubt, log out and log back in again). If any of the other information is wrong please contact the University.

Please note that all e-mails confirming your registration will be sent to your UWE e-mail address and, if one has been specified, your personal e-mail address.

Section 2B - Other Personal Details

This section contains information regarding ethnicity, religious belief, sexual orientation, trans status, disability, disability allowance, and nationality (equalities characteristics). For example:

example screenshot of Section 2B - Other Personal Details

You are required to provide at least one emergency contact. Emergency contacts can be added/modified via the Personal Details channel. Alternatively, please contact the University.

Section 3 - Address Details

If your address information is incorrect, you can change it in the Addresses channel. It is important that we have a record of your term address, even if this is the same as your home address, which is why we remind you on the Registration Form when we do not have a record of a current term address. Please remember to add this information when you know it.

If you are moving into UWE Bristol accommodation your term address will be auto-completed when you collect your keys.

If the address you wish to register is overseas, or not recognised by this system, please contact the University.

Section 4 - Terms and Conditions

This section contains legal information and conditions relating to registration and the submission of your information to UWE Bristol. You must confirm that you have read and accepted the Terms and Conditions before pressing the ‘Submit’ button and submitting the whole registration form.

On successful submission of the form your registration will be taken to provisionally-registered unless you are:

  • a student fully-funded by the Student Loans Company (SLC) and we have received details of the funding
  • a student fully-funded by the NHS
  • an international student who has paid all tuition fees before registration

- in which case your registration will be taken to fully-registered. A confirmation e-mail will be sent to your UWE e-mail addresses and, if you have specified one, your personal e-mail address.

Incorrect Information

If any of the other information is incorrect or is no longer valid, please contact the University.

Stage 2: Payment of tuition fees to full registration

For students who are eligible to complete their registration by paying their fees as part of the online registration process.

For all Home and EU students

After completing your online Registration Form (Stage 1) your registration will be provisionally-registered and we will calculate the tuition fees due for your course. We will present you with the information we currently have about any fees due for your course registration in the Fees page. At this stage we take into account any student support loan from Student Finance (administered by the Student Loans Company (SLC)).

If you are fully-funded by the SLC and we have received details of that funding, or if you are fully-funded by the NHS, your registration will be completed, and you will be fully-registered. There is no need for you to make any payment in online registration.

If you are in receipt of funding from the SLC and we have not received details of that funding we will display the latest information we have in the Fees page. We receive daily updates from the SLC so if the information shown to you appears not to include details of your SLC funding support, according to your financial notification, you can try returning at a later date to see whether or not we have received the necessary information from the SLC. If you do not agree with the calculation because you have received a financial notification which shows a different amount from that shown you must contact Student Finance without delay, contact details for which are included with your financial notification.

If you leave Online Registration at this stage and return at a later date on subsequent visits you will be shown the Payment Required page. To get back to the Fees page from the Payment Required page you will need to click on the ‘Calculate Fees’ button.

If you are still waiting for notification of tuition fee support from Student Finance England, you must take action now - see Registering on your programme and delayed funding for details.

For all international students

After completing your online Registration Form (Stage 1) your registration will be provisionally-registered and we will calculate the tuition fees due for your course. We will present you with the information we currently have about any fees due for your course registration in the Fees page. At this stage we take into account any scholarships and discounts you have been awarded and any payments you have already made to your University account.

If you leave Online Registration at this stage and return at a later date, you will be shown the Payment Required page. To get back to the Fees page from the Payment Required page you will need to click on the ‘Calculate Fees’ button.

If you have already paid your fees

If you have already paid your fees and are awaiting confirmation of your registration please click the ‘Check Status’ button on the Payment Required page to check whether your registration record has been updated recently.

Please note that if you have paid your fees via an alternative payment method it may take several weeks before your registration record is updated. This page in online registration will inform you when the record has been updated.

Fees

For Home and EU students

This page presents information about your remaining Amount to pay towards your course tuition fees, taking into account any tuition fee grant and/or loan from Student Finance (administered by the Student Loans Company (SLC)).

At the top of this page is your Student Support Number, be sure to check that this is correct. (If “Not known” is showing this means that we haven’t yet received details from the SLC. Once we have received this information your Student Support Number will be displayed.)

Below your student support number will be your tuition fee details, including: the total course fee, and available grants and loans and your amount to pay. For example:

Further help, specific to this stage of the process, is available at:

Fees cannot be calculated

This means that the system should be able to calculate your fees but we are experiencing a problem with your student record. Your registration record has not been updated.

Please contact the University who will be able to help resolve the problem so that you can return to myUWE to continue with your registration.

When you contact the Registration Team please provide them with your UWE Bristol student number and explain that you are trying to register online.

Is it possible that you have applied for student support that is a different amount from the fees for your course? For example, you have applied for a full year’s tuition fees and are taking a sandwich year – in which case you need to make this clear when you contact the Registration Team. If you are not sure please have details of your student funding when you contact the Registration Team.

Paid Amount Differs from Calculated Amount

The amount you have paid differs from the amount we expected you to pay; there is no obvious reason for this error but it does mean that your registration record has not been updated. You may need to complete your registration with assistance. Please contact the University.

If you do not agree with the amount to pay

For all Home and EU students

This may be because we haven’t received notification of your support from the Student Loans Company (SLC). We receive daily updates of this information so you can return to your registration at any time to check.

Your financial notification will have been sent to you by one of the Student Finance agencies, depending on where you live. If you have received a financial notification which shows an amount different from the amount shown in online registration (sent to us by the Student Loans Company) you must check this with your Student Finance agency without delay, contact details for which are included here:

For all international students

If you do not agree with the calculation because you have already paid tuition fees which are not listed please contact the International Development Office.

What do I have to do after registration if I am studying additional modules?

When you see the Fee Payment Complete screen you have completed the official registration process with regard to certification and payment of standard tuition fees.

Please note that if you have chosen to study additional modules over and above those normal for your course, and these have received academic approval, you may be liable for additional tuition fees. Unfortunately, you will not be able to register online for any additional modules and you must contact the University to complete registration for these modules. Otherwise, there is a risk that you will not be registered on these additional modules and you will not be able to complete the assessments for them.

Next steps

For new students: Completing your UWE Bristol membership

Note: the Registration tab is only available to eligible students during registration periods.

If you are a new student you will be expected to complete your membership of UWE Bristol by attending a registration event which will include collecting your student ID card, without which you will not be able to access many of the university's facilities including the library.

To apply for your student UWE Bristol ID Card you must first provide a photograph – you can do this in myUWE in the myDetails tab, ID Photo sub-tab.  Please see our guidance on ID Photos.  In order to collect your card you will need to provide photographic evidence of your identity – this evidence must be one of the following:

  • a passport
  • an EU/Swiss identity card
  • a UK driving licence (containing a photo)
  • another form of official photographic identity

You should have already been informed separately about the Welcome Weekend by the university’s admissions service.

You may also benefit from taking a few moments to have a look at the New students webpage to make sure you haven’t missed anything.

Law Professional Body Requirements

For students who have registered on an award in the Bristol Institute of Legal Practice (BILP) there are specific professional body entry requirements you must meet. Until we have received confirmation that you have satisfied the entry requirements for your relevant professional body you will not be able to complete your registration.

It is important that as soon as you receive the required evidence you present it to the BILP registration team so it can be recorded that you have satisfied the professional body requirements and if necessary a copy can be retained.

For returning students

For all students returning to a new academic year, it is worth taking time to check whether or not you are expected at an induction session in your faculty. Please take a look at the Returning students webpage where you will find information on induction and registration events for individual faculties.
