A look at the project Family Names of the United Kingdom at the University of the West of England (2010-16) and some of its new findings.

Richard Coates, Professor of Linguistics at UWE Bristol has a research interest in names of all kinds, especially place-names and surnames. He is one of the editors of the Oxford Dictionary of Family Names in Britain and Ireland (2016), and has published widely on the history of local place-names.
