Cancelled - this event has been cancelled, apologies if this causes any inconvenience.

Join us for a Dinstinguished Professorial Address with Professor Ben Pontin entitled 'The Environmental Case for Brexit: A Socio-Legal Perspective.

Ben is Professor of Law in the Cardiff School of Law and Politics, having previously spent 18 years at UWE Bristol. He will be talking about his forthcoming book, of the same title. Ben says, 'I voted to remain in the EU, but not on environmental grounds.'

Ben argues that Britain entered the EU with an extensive body of public law and private law provision relating to the environment, of both a written and unwritten character. It is the persistence of this, rather than the implementation of EU law, that accounts for the modest improvements in domestic environmental quality over recent decades.

Ben explores this argument with reference to case studies in the areas of waste, water quality, air quality, and habitat conservation.
