Each month, Feel Good Focus promotes different activities and events aimed at improving student's health and wellbeing. Throughout the year students are encouraged to get involved with themed activities in order to raise awareness about mental and physical health.

Why aim for at least 5 A Day?

Eating healthy doesn't have to be expensive or time consuming. November's Feel Good Focus is all about staying healthy over winter.

The World Health Organisation recommends eating a minimum of 400g of fruit and vegetables a day to lower the risk of serious health problems such as heart disease, stroke and some cancers.

Tips to get your 5 A Day on a budget

  • Buy fruit and vegetables loose rather than pre-packaged- you can save up to 50%
  • Fruit and vegetables tend to be cheaper if they're in season
  • Replace your chocolate bar or packet of crisps with a banana or apple at about half the price of their unhealthy alternatives
  • Look for supermarket deals on fruit and vegetables
  • Swap ready meals for homemade alternatives such as stews, casseroles and curries
  • Stock up on canned fruit and vegetables (no added salt or sugar). They don't go off and count towards your 5 A Day
  • Cook in bulk and freeze portions
  • Buy and cook with your flatmates to share the cost and spend time together!
