Each month, Feel Good Focus promotes different activities and events aimed at improving student's health and wellbeing. Throughout the year students are encouraged to get involved with themed activities in order to raise awareness about mental and physical health.

Stoptober is the perfect opportunity to improve your health and give up smoking.

Did you know:

  • Every year around 100,000 people in the UK die from smoking
  • Smoking increases your risk of developing more than 50 serious health conditions
  • Cigarettes contain more than 4,000 chemicals such as formaldehyde and hydrogen cyanide
  • The average smoker will lose 10 years of their life due to smoking

There are numerous health benefits of stopping smoking, including:

  • Your lung capacity improves by up to 10% in 9 months, making breathing easier
  • Feeling less stressed as nicotine addiction causes stress. This is often mistaken for other stresses so it can feel like smoking reduces stress whereas this is not the case
  • Living longer! Men who quit smoking by the age of 30 add 10 years to their life

Not to mention the financial benefits:

  • On average, most people who quit save around £250 each month
  • That's nearly £3000 a year going up in smoke

Take advantage of a range of free resources and support such as a free quit kit; if you can stop smoking for 28 days, you're five times more likely to stay quit for good!

Support your friends and family who are trying to quit smoking by giving up one of your bad habits. Whether it is alcohol or takeaways, by quitting for a month you'll be improving your health. Why not try Go Sober for October to support Macmillan and raise money for ditching the drink?
