Stanley at the Beaufort

This event has now passed.

Date: 13 July - 14 July 2017
Venue: Glenside campus
Time: 19:00

Part-performance-part-staged reading with script in hand, 'Stanley at the Beaufort' is delivered by a company of young actors directed by Bristol Old Vic's James Peries. This forms a key part of Mary's work to develop the play as a Bristol Old Vic Open Session writer 2017.

About the play

This is a play about memory and the endurance of an institution, told with poignancy and humour through the eyes of staff and patients and the artist Stanley Spencer who worked at the Beaufort War Hospital as an orderly during World War One. He painted everyday life of the hospital – making beds, scrubbing floors, filling tea urns. The play tunes in to the rhythms and sounds of the hospital, the ticking of time, the resonance of the building and the lives lived and lost.
