March's Feel Good Focus is all about improving sleeping patterns and sleep quality.

Sleep is vitally important to your mental and physical health. Sleep deprivation will negatively impact your academic performance and has been linked to an increased risk of several chronic diseases. The NHS recommends that most adults need around 8 hours of sleep a day.

Some facts about sleep:

  • University students are some of the most sleep-deprived populations
  • The average adult sleeps less than seven hours each night, when most need eight or more hours.
  • More than one-third of adults report daytime sleepiness at least a few days per month that interferes with work or social functioning.

Easy ways to improve your sleep:

  • Exercise regularly-Research suggests that people get to sleep faster if they have exercised during the day
  • Stop using all technology 30 minutes before. A 30-minute wind down with relaxation and reading (a paper book) can make it easier to fall asleep.
  • Do not consume caffeine after 3pm.

It's hard to change our habits. That is why it is important to create good habits now! "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit"-Aristotle. Change yourself for the better today, in order to create a happier and healthier future.
