Virtual Banking, Financial Services and Financial Crime Conference

This event has now passed.

Date: 04 September 2013
Venue: Innovation Island, Second Life
Time: 9:00 - 16:00

This marks the first banking and finance conference held within the UWE Bristol Second Life Innovation Island. We're also inviting delegates to submit papers on a range of banking and financial subjects.

What is Second Life?

Second Life (SL) is a virtual 3D platform. Here at UWE, we have our own Island within SL, which is where the conference will take place.

Virtual worlds offer users the opportunity to be immersed within an environment so that learning can be emergent, fun and innovative. Virtual worlds also allow you to participate at a distance, yet still feel present among colleagues from all over the world.

You'll just need a Second Life avatar, if you don't have one already. We'll send out joining instructions after 26 August, which will cover how to create an avatar and the running systems needed for SL.

Want to submit a paper?

You can send in papers on topics like:

  • Online financial transactions
  • Credit crisis - national and international
  • Corporate Governance
  • Remuneration and pay
  • Contractual elements of banking and finance
  • European banking and finance

We'll amalgamate the papers into an edited collection of essays, which we'll send out to delegates before the conference.

Please email your paper to Dr Clare Chambers-Jones by 4 August. Papers should be no longer than 20 pages. Please submit your work in single-spaced, size-12 Arial format. Please also include a 150-word abstract and a list of six key words. All papers will be peer blind reviewed.

Cost: Free
