Carole Stone, Chair, Advisory Board, YouGov-Cambridge, will deliver a lecture entitled; 'Good Networking – a Meeting of Minds' as part of the Distinguished Executive Address Series. YouGov-Cambridge is a new kind of think tank with a simple aim to bring academic and polling experts together to produce world-leading research on public opinion.

About the lecture

Carole Stone will begin with a brief summary of her business background; from her work with the BBC to the sole proprietorship of a company which brought chairman and chief executives, together with politicians and the media, to discuss important issues of the day.

She later entered into a joint venture with the opinion research company YouGov plc to establish YouGovStone Ltd - first as its managing director and then as its chairman. She will explore the philosophy of why networking is not an add-on but essential to the success of a business, concluding with her view on the practicalities of good networking.

About Carole Stone

Carole Stone for many years was the producer of BBC Radio 4's flagship current affairs discussion programme Any Questions?, inviting the most interesting and influential people in the country to discuss the issues of the day.

Since leaving the BBC Carole has worked as a freelance journalist and broadcaster and as a self-employed media consultant to chairmen and chief executives of major British companies. With more than 50,000 names in her electronic address book she's been called London's networking queen – she's famous for putting people together to their mutual advantage. Carole calls that 'good networking'.

She is a former elected governor of the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust; patron of the two mental health charities SANE and Triumph over Phobia; a patron of the Facial Surgery Research Foundation, Saving Faces; a former partner in the debating forum Intelligence Squared; a Counsellor for the charity One Young World and a member of the Appeals Committee for Combat Stress, The Enemy Within.

In April 2007 Carole became Managing Director of YouGovStone Ltd, a joint venture with the online market research agency YouGov plc, where she established the YGS ThinkTank – a global panel of over 4,000 people who are leaders in their field – the 'influentials'.

In June 2011 Carole sold her shares in the company to YouGov and is now Chair of the Advisory Board of YouGov-Cambridge.

In August 2011 Carole was voted by the Director magazine and O2 as Britain's Best Connected Woman.
