The key objective of BLOODHOUND SSC is to raise interest in science, engineering and maths amongst young people to meet future skills shortages in the UK economy. This will be achieved through the challenge of designing, building and running a car that will lift the world land speed record to 1,000 mph, and sharing information from the project in new ways that will engage and enthuse young people . UWE has played a pivotal role in the project supporting the engineering development and leading the university level engagement activities of the project. This year's lecture is particularly exciting as 2013 will see Bloodhound SSC running on a dry lakebed track in South Africa, where it will aim to break the current land speed record.
