UWE Federation Conference 2012

This event has now passed.

Date: 26 June 2012
Venue: UWE Exhibition and Conference Centre
Time: 10.30

The Higher Education sector is facing multiple and significant changes. With the near threefold increase in tuition fees comes a new funding system for students and institutions.

An increased emphasis upon widening participation is accompanied by the exclusion of AAB students from the number control. Relationships between Universities and Colleges are shifting as the Core and Margin system moves ownership of student numbers from HEIs to their FE partners. What are the challenges and opportunities that these changes will bring to the future of HE.

This is the question that the 2012 UWE Federation Conference will ask and, in keeping with this emphasis upon change, we will be adopting a wholly new, fresh format.

The morning session will see a range of colleagues present their views from perspectives including Further Education, Higher Education, Students' Union and Widening Participation.

In the second session, the emphasis is firmly on student experience as Kate Thomas gives a presentation based on her research, Working on Transition Findings.

The students will share their experiences of transition and help us to understand how that experience can be enhanced for future students.

In the third “cafe style” session we will draw together the topics raised during the day and invite small groups of delegates to each address a specific question. Groups will then be mixed up so that the suggestions from each can be considered by the new group.

The event will conclude with a summary and overview of the ideas that have been developed.
