Britain is at a historically important crossroads. As it tries to cut the deficit, the government is making the fastest and deepest spending cuts in living memory. But these could undermine growth, jobs and economic recovery, making the public finances worse in the long term. Is there a credible alternative strategy? How do we rebalance our economy so we can compete in the global markets of the future? And how can business, unions and government work together to rebuild our national prosperity? These questions will form the basis of Brendan’s address as he explores the current economic deficit.
